Nairobi (Kenya).- A boy scavenges on a dumpsite next to a river bank as plastic bottles are captured by one of the machines innovated by Kenyan start-up company Chemolex in Kariadudu, Nairobi, Kenya, 21 November 2022 (issued 24 November 2022). Chemolex has installed 10 plastic capture devices designed to automatically remove plastic and other wastes flowing along the Athi River and its major tributaries as part of global efforts to keep oceans clean and to protect the health of the residents. Recycling infrastructures then turn plastic wastes trapped and removed from the river sections into construction industry products, including pavement blocks for walk paths, cycle way, fencing poles and construction bricks. To date, the company's devices have removed over 590,000 kg of plastic waste. Chemolex aims at developing 200 innovative plastic capture devices by the end of 2025, in order to remove plastic and other wastes flowing along Africa's major rivers.
